Background

Golden Hour is a mock cold brew coffee label for Billy's Brew in Byron Bay, NSW. The client brief required a custom logo that reflected "sunshine in a bottle". To communicate the idea of a golden hour sunset, I decided to apply a sunset gradient to the label background. The rich brown typography was selected to echo the product description as having an earthy depth. For a fun twist, the idea was for the typography and scalloped corners to be removed in the die cut. The challenge was selecting a label material for the die cut as the hollowed-out pieces would be difficult to remove without tearing.

Solution
A clear plastic material was chosen for the label to appear as a die cut without removing the typography or scalloped corners. No ink was applied to the inside of the letters to ensure they remained transparent. To ensure solid colours for the rest of the label, white ink was applied first before printing on top with the brand colours. For a final touch, gold foil embossing was applied to the borders of both the typography and label.
